DEAN SURTEES It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my dear brother Dean at the much too young age of 59. Dean was diagnosed with lung cancer on January 15, 2007 and passed away on February 9th in hospital on the Queen Charlotte Islands. He graduated from Grant Park High School in 1965, joined the RCMP in 1966 and subsequently spent the next 25 years as a member of the RCMP in various locations in British Columbia. Upon retirement Dean retired to Sandspit, Queen Charlotte Islands, BC. Deano as he was affectionately called was predeceased by our loving parents, Marion and Dave Surtees and is survived by his devoted sister Lynne, brother-in-Law Mike Martin, niece Kristen of Winnipeg, nephews, Grant (wife Melissa) of Perth, Australia and Todd Martin of Edmonton. He is also survived by his wonderful daughters, Misty of Kelowna, BC and Marlee, son-in-law Shain and grandchildren, Tia and Carter of Sandspit, BC, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. You will be deeply missed Dear Brother. Rest in peace til we meet again.

  • June 27, 2016: Wandering through the cemetery in Queen Charlotte City today looking for any trace of Dean. It's been a full 50 years since we "J" Troopers gathered in Regina to begin our careers. None better than Dean. RIP my friend. - Posted by: Dennis Flewelling (Troop mate RCMP "J" Troop 66/67) on: Jun 27, 2016

  • April 5/2015. Just found out about Deano. Have worked out of town last 8 years and lost touch with all that's happened. So sad to hear. Truly one of the nicest people I've ever met. Spent the entire decade of the 80's drinking with Deano, John Noon and Norm the owner of the pub. Me and my buddies were about 15 years younger than the afore mentioned gentlemen so we learned many life lessons over countless beers and shared many laughs. Never forget on Deano's 40th when he drank 40 draught along with other stuff. He was pretty drunk but kept his word about drinking a beer for every year. LOL. - Posted by: Joe DeAmaral (Drinking buddy from the old skeena days) on: Apr 06, 2015

  • I had the pleasure of working for Deano in Terrace. I fondly recall Friday afternoons, on occasion, we would finish work "early" and head down to the Skeena Pub. Deano would stop me on the way in and say, "OK, we have to limit ourselves today, we can not have more than 65 or 70 draught." He introduced me to fishing & built me a great rod which I will cherish forever. Deano is likely sharing a brew with Bude, Mike Buday. You will be missed by all of your Terrace friends. - Posted by: phil noonan (Family) on: Apr 03, 2007
