CRAIG CAMPBELL William Howard Craig Campbell, 81, of Peoria, IL, died at 7:50 a.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007 at H.C.R. ManorCare in Peoria, IL. Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. with the Venerable Norm Collier officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Born December 12, 1925 in Portage la Prairie, MB, the third son of Douglas and Gladys Crampton Campbell, he attended public school at Dale Country School in the Flee Island District and then in Portage and high school at Kelvin High School in Winnipeg. In his teens, Craig played defense on the Winnipeg junior hockey team, the Monarchs, and graduated from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1948. Craig also served in the Canadian Army in 1945 at the end of the Second World War. He married Enid McLachlan in MacGregor, MB on October 30, 1948. She survives. Also surviving are four sons, Dean (Maria) Campbell, Clive (Terry) Campbell, Scott (Nancy) Campbell and Lee (Debra) Campbell; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four sisters, Dawn (Jack) McKeag, Sharon (Victor) Naimish, Sonya (Scott) Wright and Dwili (Bill) Burns; one brother, Keith Campbell; several cousins, nieces and nephews, by whom he will be sadly missed. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother (Terence) and three sisters-in-law. Craig first worked for Northern Electric Co. in Winnipeg. He then worked as an engine salesman for two Caterpillar dealerships, Powell Equipment in Winnipeg and Martin-Roasa in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1956 he and his family moved to Peoria, Illinois, where Craig worked with Caterpillar Diesel Engine Division, in Mossville, IL. Craig built their first house in Peoria, IL at this time also. In 1961 he transferred to Caterpillar Americas and was Engine Representative for Western Canada, living in Vancouver, British Columbia. In 1964 Craig was transferred to Bogotá, Colombia, where he was Engine Representative for Trinidad, Curacao, Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador. In 1966 Craig, with his family, was back in Peoria, IL at Engine Division in Mossville, IL for four years until 1970, when he was sent to Geneva, Switzerland, for three years. He returned to Peoria, IL in 1973 again to work at Engine Division until 1985 when he was retired. During that time he also built a second story and family room onto their present home. That was his hobby, as a do-it-yourselfer. He was also an avid reader. Craig also went into the landlord business of six rental duplexes being owner and maintenance man for the next 20 years. Craig attended Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, IL. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to a charity of choice.
