Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN GARTEN On the night of February 16, 2007, Helen Garten (nee Jozefowicz) passed away quietly after a lengthy illness, at Selkirk General Hospital. She had been suffering from MSA (Multiple System Atrophy), in which the nervous system randomly shuts down sections so body parts do not function. Helen is survived by her husband Wolfgang; her son Paul (Sherry) and three grandchildren, Kelly, Jared and Candice. Helen was predeceased by her parents, father Alexi Jozefowicz, and her mother Helena Jozefowicz. Helen was born August 26, 1919 in the community of Badger, Manitoba. The family moved to Carrick, where they undertook farming. After her father's death, she continued to operate the farm. In 1956, she married Wolfgang Garten and a son was born to them a year later. After marriage, Helen sold the operational part of the farm and with her mother moved to Winnipeg, taking up residence at 15 Osborne Street. In 1966 the family moved to Victoria BC and remained there for about two years. The weather was not kind to Wolfgang, and the family moved back to Winnipeg, taking residence on Campbell Street. From here, the family built a home in St. Clements, residing there until today. The family would like to give a very special thanks to the staff and doctors that attended Helen during her last days in Selkirk General Hospital, making these days tolerable and pain free and tending to her with compassion, tenderness and kindness. Helen will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held on February 22, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Western Canada Aviation Museum, Hangar T-2, 958 Ferry Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3H 0Y8 Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home And Reception Centre 885-9715
