VICTORIA THERESA (TORIE) LAUTENS (nee KERN) Victoria passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2007, at Deer Lodge Centre with her loving family by her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank Lautens, in 1997; her parents, Theresa and Ernest Kern; brothers Theodor, Norman, Arthur and Ernest; sisters Mary Riehl, Minnie Kern, Ernestine Hooey, Emma McKeown and Ida Lewis. She is survived by her children, Lorne (Kathy) of Winnipeg and Lynda Seno of Honolulu; grandchild Kimberly; cousin Helen Kendel and other relatives. Victoria was born in Winnipeg in 1911 and lived here all her life, except for short residences in her early years in Stonewall, Lake Louise, Vancouver, Montreal and Los Angeles. She was a proud member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Women's Auxiliary of St. John's United Church. Victoria was a spirited, friendly, outgoing person who was very devoted to family and friends. She led a full and exciting life with many independent adventures, such as climbing to the icy peak of Victoria Glacier's Mt. Temple and driving to and living in Hollywood in the 1930s. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the excellent staff at Deer Lodge Centre who provided Victoria with compassionate care. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. in the Deer Lodge Centre Chapel. If friends and relatives so wish, they may make a donation in Victoria's name to the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3J 0L3.
