DEBBIE LEE HAIGHT (nee MOORE) On February 16, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer, Debbie passed away peacefully at the Thompson General Hospital with husband Gerry, daughter Lindsay, and best friend Judy Pearce at her side. Debbie was taken from us at the young age of 49. A Memorial Service will be held in Thompson on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. at the Advent Lutheran Church. Interment will take place at a later date in Cartwright, Manitoba. Left to mourn her passing are her son Brad (April McGregor); daughter Lindsay (Geoff Mann); husband Gerry; sisters, Bonnie Lloyd and Pennie Moore; nephew Paul Lloyd (Dara); father and mother-in-law, Derwin and Thelma; special friends, Judy and Dennis Pearce, and Ian and Eric Van Buskirk. Debbie was predeceased by her father and mother, Robert and Jean, and by brothers-in-law, Gary and Jim. Debbie was born in Flin Flon on December 15, 1957. She soon moved to Thompson with her family at the age of three. She met Gerry (Pete) in 1976 and was married in 1978. Debbie was a stay-at-home mom with Brad and Lindsay and cared for many other children. Her love for working with children drew her to volunteering at Westwood School. She went on to graduate from college as an educational assistant and has been sharing her gift with children with disabilities ever since. Debbie was deeply passionate about her career, her family, the pets (Tom and Toffee), and gardening. She was a keenly competitive curler and volunteered her many talents at the Burntwood Curling Club on the Executive, various bonspiel committees, and contributed greatly to the success of Tankard and Scott Tournament of Hearts events in Thompson. Debbie was the wife, mother, friend and confidante that we should all aspire to be. She touched many lives by always putting others first and was a genuinely caring and generous person. She will be greatly missed not only her family and close friends but also by many people at both the Burntwood Curling Club and the Mystery Lake School Division. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9.
