MARIA (MARY) HAAKMAN (nee GLAS) Peacefully, after a brave battle with cancer, Maria died at the age of 72 years on Saturday, February 17, 2007, at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg. She will be forever cherished by her loving husband Ben; sons, Perry (Joan), John (Lisa), daughter Cora Campbell (Dale) and son Mark (Kari); grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Dylan, Marie, Emily and Daniel; siblings, Nellie (of the Netherlands), Kees (of Alberta), Agatha and Jack (of the Netherlands); special friends, Johanna Hes and Lies Niesink, as well as many friends in Holland, Canada and the United States. Born in the Netherlands in 1935, Maria married her sweetheart Ben and they immigrated to Canada in 1958. Maria will be best remembered for the time she gave to others - in her family, among her friends and in her community. A visit to their home always meant a long walk in King's Park or a bike ride, a game of cards, freely offered words of advice, something found just for you at a garage sale or a pair a slippers knitted with her own hands. There was always room for one more at her dinner table. She and Ben enjoyed traveling in later years and visited friends in many corners of the world. Always a woman of prayer, Maria was happy to trust in what the good Lord had in mind for her future. Prayers will be said on Wednesday evening, February 21, at 5:30 p.m., in Mary Mother of the Church Catholic Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 22 at 11:00 a.m., also in the Church with Fr. Carl Tarnopolski presiding. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Maria's name may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home And Reception Centre 885-9715
