EDITH MARY WEISS (nee FREESE) December 3, 1929 - February 16, 2007 If it's true that someone can die at peace, then Edie left us that way, to be with Wilf and the rest of her family, knowing she was loved and that we would all be together again one day. Edie was born in the Minitonas Municipality to Guy and Grace Freese (nee Hiscock) and was the seventh of nine children. Edie married her first husband Murray Mullaney in 1947 and had two children, Carter and Heather. In 1963, while living in Winnipeg, Edie married Wilfred Weiss and in 1966, they had a daughter, Karla-Rae. Through the years Edie was employed at Birks, Canada Safeway and Woolco, jobs that she truly enjoyed and where she made many lasting friendships. Edie loved her children and grandchildren who will all remember her made-up stories, silly little songs, her really good cabbage rolls and her not so good hockey puck cookies. Edie leaves to mourn her daughter Karla-Rae and her husband Shawn Elcock; son in-law Don O'Bear and grandchildren, Meredith Best, Clayton O'Bear and his wife Heather, Dustin, Kasey-Rae, Jesse and Kennedy Elcock, great granddaughter Makayla Best. Edie is also survived by her brother Calvin Freese, with whom she enjoyed a wonderful visit last summer as well as brothers in-law Bernie Penner, Peter Humenuik and sisters in-law Olga, Blanche and Helen Freese. Edie will also be missed by Wilf's family, Rose Manning, Ruth Brais, Fred Weiss, Ida Weiss, Jim and Diane Weiss and Irene Sexton. Edie had many nieces and nephews, who were all very special to her and though there are too many to list, Kim and Trevor Penner were like her own kids, especially after they lost their Mom at a young age. Edie also had many good friends who will miss her, in particular her long time, great friend Bernice Holub. Edie was predeceased by her parents, Guy and Grace, her husband Wilf, son Carter Mullaney and her daughter, Heather O'Bear. Brothers, Lawrence, Ken and Irvin Freese, sisters, Ella Antichow, Alma Penner, Dora Norquay, and Myrle Ulinder, her brothers-in-law, Clarence Ulinder, Michael Antichow, John Norquay and her sister-in-law Orielle Freese. Edie also mourned the loss of her father-in-law Gustav Weiss mother-in-law Edith Weiss, brothers-in-law, Wilf (Dimp) Manning, Marcel Brais and Jerry Sexton. People close to Edie knew that she was always fun to be around, beautiful and entertaining. Some of her early years were not easy for her, and she had a few burdens to bear along the way. Losing her siblings, her husband and two of her children was very difficult and though she tried to be strong, it took so much of her. She truly appreciated everything that her two nieces, Carole Urbanowski and Ardith Mosiondz did for her the last few years in Winnipeg. Edie recently moved to Pinawa to be closer to Karla and her family and though it was only a short while, she was happy to be able to spend more time with them. She enjoyed her home, made some new friends and loved to watch the Pinawa deer as they passed through her yard. Her last days were sad and she tried to get better, but seemed just too tired. Her granddaughter Kasey rarely left her side, and Edie died quietly holding her daughter's hand. Closer to Spring a Memorial Service will be held.

  • I will of course miss my auntie, but forever remember the great times we had together and with her family and mine. I will pass on continuing to keep the tradition of fun that our families share. - Posted by: Scott Freese (Nephew ) on: Apr 03, 2015
