Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY LOEWEN Mary (Plett) Loewen passed away peacefully on Monday evening, February 19, 2007 at the St. Boniface Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband David (1989); her parents, Peter and Susanna (Wall) Plett, two sisters and three brothers. She leaves to mourn her daughters, Irene; Anne, her children; son David (Grace), their children; son Peter (Alvira) and their children. Mary was born on June 20, 1915 in Trubetskoi, Russia and immigrated to Canada with her family at age 10, settling in Morden. As a teenager, she moved to Winnipeg working as a housekeeper for the Swensons, caring for their two children, Bob and Sally, who remained special to Mom all her life. Mary married David Loewen in 1940 and settled into farming life at Newton, Manitoba. In 1974 they retired to Winnipeg. They joined the Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church. They enjoyed travelling, visiting Australia, Fiji, Hawaii, Europe and many places in Canada and the United States. She enjoyed volunteering at the M.C.C. Thrift Store. Mom moved to Donwood Manor high-rise apartments and enjoyed socializing, and the many programs and activities that Donwood provided. She enjoyed the challenge of trying new knitting patterns and crafting many precious gifts. This last year she learned Sudoku, solving many puzzles. She had a great sense of humour, enjoyed table games, and visiting with friends and family. She was always keenly interested in what her children and grandchildren were doing. Mom knew how to love and was never shy about showing her affection for others. She was a supporter and an encourager. Viewing will be Thursday, February 22 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the auditorium at Donwood Manor, 165 Donwood Drive, Winnipeg, with a short devotional at 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Friday, February 23 at 9:30 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Heartfelt thanks are extended to Home Care staff and Palliative Care staff of St. Boniface Hospital for the excellent care they provided our mother.
