Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEW (DUMLUK) UDOW (LEWIS ARTHUR UDOW) Suddenly on Saturday, February 17, 2007 in Hillside Beach, MB Lewis Arthur Udow Dumluk passed away. Len was born May 23, 1945 in Winnipeg, MB to Abe and Eva Udow. Growing up in the North End as an only child Lew had spent a lot of time with his nose in a book. Having started school at a very early age Lew excelled through to high school where he was selected to be on CBC's Reach for the Top team. He was also a member of the chess club obtaining a grade of Class B and the school's debate team. Ending up at university where he proceeded to blow up the Science lab. Lew had a photographic memory, a very complex mind, unfortunately his hands never kept up. You could ask him any question on any subject and he would have an hour long lecture ready for you. In August 1966, Lew became employed with Canada Post as a postal clerk where he spent 41 years finding little ways to one-up his supervisors and managers from going into work in his bathing suit on a hot day to finding loop holes in the system. It was one of his passions in life. He had a great sense of humour. Lew spent all of his adult life as an avid union activist supporting his Union CUPW and it's Members. He served as a shop steward and also sat on several committees. He mentored many members on the rules and their rights. As a devoted supporter of the NDP, Lew ran for city council, attended conventions, wrote resolutions, and also served as a member from the Transcona Constituency Council of the NDP. Point Of Order! Later in life he developed a real affection for NTN Trivia. Tuesday nights were always spent with the team at Boogie's on Main where many debates where had. Lew had a great appreciation for a good strong argument. Fellow teammate Alex Milton always had one ready for him. Another joy of his life was his grandchildren. He spent endless hours reading with them to taking trips on the bus to the library, and when some got older helping with homework. Grandpa always made time for them, always had a silly face or a tickle on hand. From his ogre sounds to bellowed out songs, he always tried to make them laugh. Lew had many interests in life, including his love for reading, his pipe for smoking, crossword puzzles, classical music, Marx Brother's, bag pipes, and Haggis. His lifelong interest was hi Toby Jug collection started as a young child after receiving his first Toby as an inheritance from his grandmother. His collection grew in leaps and bounds filling up the walls of his den. Finding his next Toby had always been like a treasure hunt. Lew was a greatly understated man. He will be sorely missed by us all. Len is survived by his wife Janice Ducharme; sons, Jason, Jared (Pauline), and daughter Jade (Jim). Grandchildren, Justine, Chayden, Devon, Faith, Kiana, Trenton, Tyler, Bailey, Sky-Leigh and Dylan. He leaves many friends, and family to cherish his memory, his knowledge, his wisdom, and his wacky sense of humour. Special thanks to the Pine Falls Powerview RCMP, Victoria Beach First Response Unit, and to all the wonderful, helpful people at the Hillside Beach Store. Cremation has taken place. Honorary pallbearers are Frank Lukawiecki, Alex Milton, Dorothy Wigmore, Bill Fugler, Larry Gall, Garry Gilbert, Rick Hemming and Murray Rennie. A celebration of his life will be held at Transcona Funeral Chapel located at 1800 Day Street on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Bill Blaikie officiating. If you so desire, donations may be made to the Unemployed Help Centre or the Manitoba New Democratic Party. In Solidarity TRANSCONA FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements.
