Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM TERNOWETSKY January 25, 1910 - February 18, 2007 It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of William (Bill) Ternowetsky, a good man who lived a long life. Bill died peacefully Sunday, February 18 at the age of 97 with Doris his devoted wife of 70 years at his side. Appropriately, she was singing to him - a favourite pastime they enjoyed doing together in both their languages, Ukrainian and English. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Leonty and Lily; his two sisters, Victoria Goriak and Mary Kenaschuk; four of his brothers, Alexander, John, Ernie and Nick and son Gordon William. Bill was born on a farm in Insinger, SK. He came to Winnipeg to further his education as a teenager. During this time he was a member of the Choral and Drama Society of Yuri Fedkovich of St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, where he participated in concerts and plays. It is here where he met Doris Luchik and later married in 1936. Bill was a classical Canadian entrepreneur, whose business interests took him to various communities in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Northern Ontario. Bill was particularly interested in the hotel business and owned and operated several throughout his life. Other notable business interests included being a founding member and Manager of Prairie Canners Ltd. in Winkler, MB and the owner / operator of a dry cleaning plant in Moose Jaw, SK. In addition, Bill was a founding member of the Winkler Chamber of Commerce. His personal interests were occupied with curling, singing in the choir and involvement in many organizations which include: Order of St. Andrew, Ukrainian Self Reliance League, Sons of Ukrainian Pioneers (S.O.U.P.), Ukrainian Professional Business Club, St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Disrali), Holy Trinity Ukrainian Metropolitan Cathedral, Ukrainian Voice and St. Andrew's College. Bill will always be remembered as one who lent a helping hand, one who loved to sing and tell stories, a gracious host, but above all will be remembered for his generosity. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife Doris; his son Dennis (Brampton, ON); his daughter-in-law Carroll (Prince George, BC); his grandchildren, Troy (Eva), Natalie, Tania, Alexander and Joseph; his great-grandchildren, Matthew and John; his brother George (Jean) (Calgary, AB); his sister-in-law Sophie (Edmonton, AB) and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. The family will always appreciate the autobiography Bill wrote so eloquently describing much of the family history. Prayers will be held Friday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main St., Winnipeg. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 24 at 11:00 a.m. also at the cathedral with Very Rev. H. Lakusta officiating assisted by Metropolitan John, interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens to follow. Special thanks to all the caring staff at Holy Family Nursing Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Cathedral or your charity of choice. Vichnaya Pam'Yat May he rest in peace. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
