STEWART WILLIAM CROOKES It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing in Saranac Lake, NY on February 14, 2007, of our beloved husband, father, son, brother and uncle, Stewart William Crookes. Stew will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by Donna, his wife of 36 years; their children, Sheena, Jennifer, Stew Jr. (Natasha); his mother Peggie; brother Douglas (Marie, children, Eric and Susan) and sister Susan. He was predeceased by his father Alfred (October 2005) and father-in-law Roy Van Dusen (September 1999). Stew was born in Winnipeg, November 24, 1946, the middle child in a military family. His father, being in the Canadian Army moved around alot and Stew made numerous friends wherever he went. Every new place was an adventure, and he never had a problem fitting in as the new kid on the block because everyone wanted to be his friend. When his dad's last military posting took him to Regina, he met Donna, his high school sweetheart and love of his life. Stew and Donna married in Winnipeg and raised three terrific kids that he was so proud of. He joined the Kinsmen and tirelessly worked at any and all functions for the community, with Donna and his children helping. Because of his thinking of others attitude, he was nominated and awarded a Lifetime Membership with the Kinsmen. Stew maintained his own silk screening business for many years, until he decided to change direction completely and becoming a long distance truck driver. After the children had moved out on their own, he and Donna started traveling together on one adventure after another, taking their pretty girl Winnie the Pug with them. She was such a huge part of his life and the three of them were enjoying life to the fullest. Stew's first priority was always his family and like his dad, he was very involved in anything his children were doing, from school to career choices, no matter what, he backed their decisions and helped wherever he could. Their house was always full of love and laughter, and often included their children's friends who felt so at home with their adoptive parents . Along with his family, he will be sadly mourned by a great many friends and relatives who will miss his caring ways and sense of humour. His brother Doug, who was also one of his best friends, will especially miss their coffee breaks at Tim's. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Diabetes Association, Cystic Fibrosis or Cerebral Palsy Association. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception centre. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550

  • Dear Donna, Sheena, Jennifer and Stew jr. We are saddened to hear of Stew’s sudden passing and extend our condolences to each of you. Losing a husband and father is difficult, but even more so when it is someone so young. We are not able to return to Canada in time to attend the memorial, but our thoughts and prayers are with you.
