DOROTHY LOUISE SMITH A loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend, at the age of 95, Dorothy Louise Smith passed peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 after a long and full life. She is survived by her sister, Eleanor June Smith of El Cerrito, California; nephews, Roland Alexander Smith (wife Katy and daughter Gabriella) of El Cerrito, California and Donald Gregory Smith (wife Lida and daughter Kristyna) of Carrollton, Texas. Dorothy attended Mulvey, Wolseley and Daniel McIntyre schools and Success Business College. She worked for Fairbanks Morse Insurance Agency and later for Manitoba Blue Cross, where she was employed as the executive secretary to the president until her retirement. Dorothy was a long time member of the Quota Club of Winnipeg and the Winnipeg branch of the Association of Administrative Assistants. She also served as president of the Manitoba Association of Medical Records Librarians and was a member of the Maple Leaf Toastmistresses Club, which she enjoyed enormously. Dorothy was a member of the St. Aidan's Church and enjoyed many years in the seniors club there. Although Dorothy was born and lived her entire life in Winnipeg, she did enjoy traveling, and traveled extensively throughout Canada and the United States, as well as to Mexico, Holland, Germany, France, Switzerland and Portugal. Special thanks to the staff of the Thorvaldson Care Center, especially Jocelyn Thorvaldson, for their care. Also special thanks to her dear friend Jo-Anne LaVallee for all her love, friendship and unlimited kindness, and to good friends Irene Dube and Diane Friesen, and to John Deacon, Q.C., the Reverend Ken Turnbull and the ministry and friends at St. Aidan's Church for all their care, kindness and support. Dorothy was a dog lover, often referring to herself as a dog-person , sharing most of her life with a number of canine companions. For this reason, flowers are gratefully declined and donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Street, Winnipeg R2L 1X3 in Dorothy's memory. At Dorothy's request, there will be no funeral service and cremation has taken place. She will be laid to rest at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, 23 February in the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue.
