DENNIS DAVID LACKMAN 1947 - 2007 In the arms of his wife and children, Dennis passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Riverview Health Centre. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, and children, Maure and Matthew; brothers, Brian (Carol), Allan (Grace), and Daryle, and sister Darlene (Bryan Hill), as well as extended family; mother-in-law, Minnie Bauschke; sisters-in-law, Lorraine (Ernie Lutz), Myrna (Hank Strijbosch), Erna Michalow, Iona (Norman Plato), and Eileen (Alvin Froehlich), and numerous nieces and nephews. Dennis was born on December 3, 1947 and grew up on the family farm in Lydiatt, Manitoba. He attended Corrall School, Springfield Collegiate, and Beausejour Collegiate. In his younger years, Dennis was an active participant in baseball, hockey, football, and golf. He was always ready for a pickup game with his brothers, and was very upset when they couldn't play. Dennis was a proud supporter of his children and loved them fiercely. He would try to attend all Matty's home football games, and would get on his scooter to make the trip to the Nationals' playing field. Dennis was very proud of Maure's singing ability, and glowed with pride whenever she sang in church or at the Winnipeg Music Festival. Dennis was employed with the Manitoba Health Organizations, from 1971 until his retirement in 1996, first as a regional accountant and then as Business Manager. As a regional accountant, Dennis made many road trips to rural hospitals, and was respected for the work he did. When he was unable to travel anymore, he became Business Manager at M.H.O. and remained in that position until retirement. Dennis was an active and faithful member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. He served as their paying treasurer for nine years, and on the Board of Stewardship and the Budget committee. With the advancement of his Multiple Sclerosis, prior to admission to Deer Lodge and Riverview, Dennis relied on Home Care workers, who enjoyed his zest for life. These men provided an invaluable service and treated him with respect, kindness and humour, for which his family is very thankful. Despite the limitations imposed by M.S., Dennis made the rounds when he could to visit and get acquainted with the other residents. Dennis was a kind, gentle and soft spoken man with a wry sense of humour. We will miss his quick wit and intelligence, and feel privileged to have known him. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Riverview Health Centre, especially 2 West, whose compassion, concern, and kindness made Dennis feel at home in his new residence. They are especially grateful for the years of unconditional caring and support from Maurita Kiesman, the regular visits from Hank and Myrna, and the presence of Lenise Michalow Francis at Dennis's passing. The memorial service will be held at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church, 7 Tudor Cres. (at London Street) on Sunday, February 25 at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Tom Lurvey officiating. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at the Transcona Cemetery at a later date. At Dennis's request, donations in his memory may be made to the Sherwood Park Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
