Grace was born in Winnipeg on July 18, 1922, the first child of Margaret and Leonard Johnston, and has lived here all her life. She attended Champlain and Cecil Rhodes Schools and worked in the Fabric Department of Eatons for 17 years. She has been a member of Sparling United Church since 1935 and attended through Sunday School, C.G.I.T and Young People's. She was a C.G.I.T. leader and taught Sunday School in Beginners, Primary and Junior Departments. Grace started the Explorer Group in 1943 and was superintendent for four years. Grace met her husband while attending Young People's group in Sparling Church and they were married there on June 26, 1947. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and her grandchildren were the light of her life. She took great pride in her hobbies sewing, baking and writing letters. Grace was very sincere, loving and caring person with a strong faith, and her church was a very important part of her life. She was a good listener with much compassion and understanding, which was valued by her family and friends. She was happy doing things for others and enjoyed life as fully as her health would allow. She was blessed with much patience. Grace enjoyed many happy times at their cottage on Indian Island at Lac Lu, ON. Grace was very fond of music and always happy to give moral support and encouragement to her relatives and friends in their efforts to pursue their talent towards a career in music. Her appreciation of music gave her much enjoyment to be in the listening audience of the many concerts and performances she attended during her lifetime. She was a member of the Wednesday Morning Musicale since 1976 and, with her husband Norman, season ticket holders for the W.S.O. since 1956. The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Sheila Domke for her care over many years, and other Doctors to whom she has, from time to time, called upon for consultation. A service of Celebration for Grace's life will be held at Thomson Funeral Chapels at 669 Broadway with Rev. Ritchie officiating on March 1, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Following the service a reception and fellowship will be held in the reception area of Thomson's. Following this, the burial will take place in the family plot in Brookside Cemetery. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave. R3H 1P6. It is better to do small things with great love, then great things with no love. Things are never so bad, they could be worse. Never a desire to have name in lights, but just in people's hearts.
