MARTIN GESWIN It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Martin Geswin. He passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer at the Riverview Health Centre with his family at his side. Born in Plum Coulee, MB on May 29, 1923, Martin learned the carpentry trade from his father during the Depression and enlisted for active duty during the Second World War with the Air Force. He later took employment with the CNR and married the love of his life, Ollie in 1950. He retired from CN in 1982 as Supervisor of the Reclamation Plant and enjoyed his retirement years improving the Winnipeg Beach cottage he built for his family. He took great pride in his grandsons and his favourite times were family get-togethers. Those who knew him will miss his cheerful demeanor and his willingness to lend a hand. He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Anganetha Geswin; his brothers, George, Fred and David and his sister Nettie. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Ollie; daughters, Connie (Larry) Laker and Betty Ann Geswin; grandsons, Larry (Alicia) Laker and Jamie Laker and great-grandsons, Ethan and Braeden; sister Alice Fidler of Selkirk, MB; sister-in-law Hylda Geswin of England and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to brother-in-law Walter Kotchorek and wife Pat, and neighbours, Steve and Cherie Karnafel, Paul and Sandra Dutra, Dave and Cathy Doyle and Gerry Rauch for their help during Martin's illness. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Maureen Keenan and the nursing staff in the Palliative Care Unit of Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion. A memorial service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Transcona Branch, 117 Regent Ave. East, Winnipeg at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 26. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
