EDWARD MAZURKEWICH Peacefully, surrounded by those who love him, Edward passed away February 22, 2007 after a short and very courageous battle of cancer. He is predeceased by his father Mike (1962); mother Helen (1987); brothers, Martin and Joe. His sparkling smile and sense of humour will be missed. Eddie is remembered and cherished by his wife Helen, of 44 years; daughters, Connie (Al) Kerney, grandchildren, Caitlyn and Myles; Cathy (Fred) Oliver; Maxine (Joey) Zasitko, grandsons, Chandler and Garett. Sisters, Minnie (Bob) McDonald, Caroline (Steve) Shachtay. Eddie will also be missed by his nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and friends. Eddie was born May 19, 1939 at his parents home in Sylvan, MB. This is where he grew up, attended the Sylvan school and later farmed at the family farm. He worked hard at farming and provided very well for his family. In 1991 he gave up farming and tried a new endeavour. This was a dream come true, he was now driving a semi and was very proud to do so. He took many trips with his wife and all his grandchildren had rides in Gigi's big truck. Eddie did not retire from trucking, but his failing health required him to stop driving. Eddie dearly loved and cherished his wife. Together with his wife he raised three wonderful daughters and welcomed three sons-in-law. He always had advice for his girls and many days gave them encouragement and strength to carry on. He truly adored his sweetie-pie Helen and during his last days only she could comfort him. He was a great teacher and was very artistic with his hands. He could build or fix anything and quickly he taught his sons-in-law many new skills. Eddie adored his grandchildren, a gentle giant . He always had a kind word or a joke for them. He was on Earth for a short time, but he was a very strong and courageous man. We will miss you always and you will be with us in our hearts forever and ever. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Fisher Branch. Rev. Fr. Michael Raj Savarimuthu will officiate. A private family interment will take place at Sylvan Cemetery. Very special thanks to Dr. Albabar and the excellent staff at Percy E. Moore Hospital, Mervin Abas for his constant direction. Doctors Leylek and Sisler, Deborah Scott RN from CancerCare, Shannon Pyziak from Palliative Care, Donna Lindal and Bob Schreyer from Home Care. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Palliative Care at Percy E. Moore Hospital, Hodgson, MB. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Arborg in care of arrangements.
