WILLIAM (BILL) STECY October 15, 1922 - February 22, 2007 It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear father and grandfather, aged 84, at the Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oakbank. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his five children: Verna (Maurice) of Thompson, Ron (Pat), Norm, Taras (Tracey) of Winnipeg, and Andrew (Linda) of Woodlands; grandchildren, Jason and Natasha (Jason), Tyler and Chris, Cameron and Caitlyn, Matthew and Sarah; his sisters Julia Stacey and Olga Wilgosh; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Bill was predeceased by his dear wife of 54 years, Ann (2003); parents Michael and Anna, brothers, Steve, Harry, and Nick; sisters, Rose Soltowski, Mary Stopera, Nellie Diduch, Katherine Bamburak, Stella Skochylas, and Pauline Demshar. Bill was born in St. Norbert, MB as one of 12 children. He worked on the family farm growing and marketing fresh vegetables in the city. At the age of 27, in 1949, after he and Ann Kuzina were married, they farmed on three successively larger farms, all near Winnipeg. They raised five children immersed in the Ukrainian language and traditions; with high regard for education, all their children were well-educated. Bill was a hardworking, very thoughtful man with visions for the future. He grew thousands of bushels of grain over the years, creatively repaired all farm machinery, raised farm animals and hundreds of poultry, and continued the vegetable market gardening tradition with his family. Bill was dedicated to his church and had a deep spirituality shared with his family. He sang a beautiful tenor in the choir; spent countless hours working as president for the parish council at Immaculate Conception at Cook's Creek; was a member of the Knights of Columbus (over 25 years). Bill spearheaded and chaired the Alternate Flood Control Committee to successfully reroute waters from thousands of acres of land east of Winnipeg in the 1970s. Despite his early grade five education, he earned a diploma in Farm Business Planning from RRCC. Bill's respectfulness, sensitivity and humour will be remembered by all who knew him. Prayers will be said on Monday, February 26, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Highway #1 East at Navin Road. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 390 Marion St. with Reverend Bohdan Borowiec presiding. Interment will follow at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. We want to offer sincere gratitude to the staff at Kin Place at Oakbank for their caring, dedication, and friendship during Dad's stay there. Thank you to all who helped make Dad's life happy and purposeful.
