Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHIRLEY CLAIRE HURST April 3, 1921 February 25, 2007 Slipped away early Sunday morning, after a struggle to recover from her second broken hip in 14 months. Born Shirley Claire Galaugher in North Bay, Ontario, she was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Agnes and all of her six siblings. Lovingly remembered and deeply missed by Douglas, her husband of 57 years; her daughter Susan (David) Kitteridge of White Rock, British Columbia; her son Gordon (Karen) Hurst and her adored grandchildren, Mitchell and Holly Hurst, as well as many extended family members and friends. Her nieces and nephews and their families were especially important to Shirley. Winnipeg was home to Shirley for almost all of her 85 years. She had such a sense of community, and it is a tribute to her that she has maintained lasting friendships from so many chapters of her life. She cherished her relationships with friends and neighbours from school, church, Eatons, Norwood, Niakwa Park, Fort Richmond, Southwood Green, Lake of the Woods and the Victoria Hospital. The 12 years she spent as Director of Volunteers at Victoria General Hospital when it first moved to Pembina Highway were both challenging and rewarding. She put her heart and soul into that hospital and continued to volunteer there for many years after she retired. Although the family fought to keep Shirley from going into a long term care facility, we can't say enough about the wonderful team at Poseidon Care Centre who looked after her these past eight months. We thank them so much. Also, we are forever grateful to the friends and family who have always been there, but especially during this difficult year. Cremation has taken place. A remembrance service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 1, at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley's memory to the Victoria Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
