AB COLLINGS It is with deep sorrow the family wishes to announce that Ab Collings passed away at Grace General Hospital on Saturday, February 24, 2007. Ab will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Terry (Dean); grandsons, Jason (Karlie) and Kyle; son Garth (Karen); grandson Mackenzie; in-laws, Jack and Marlyn Kearns; nieces, Diane MacKenzie and Debbie Callaghan and their families, as well as relatives in Alberta and England. Ab was predeceased by his wife Doreen (2002); his parents Harold and Ivy; sister Flossie (2005); and brother Harold. Born and raised in Winnipeg, on September 26, 1915, Dad played professional hockey from 1936 to 1949 with the New York Rovers, Philadelphia Ramblers, Providence Reds, Saskatoon Quakers to name a few. He was enlisted with the Air Force, travelling overseas to Germany. He met and married Doreen in 1951 and was employed as a salesman with Carlton Cards for over 25 years, retiring in 1981. Besides Dad's love for hockey, he loved to play golf and was an honorary member for over 60 years at the Assiniboine Golf Club, and in his lifetime achieved two holes in one. Dad worked at Bel Acres for ten years after retirement as a Marshall and a Starter; as well, he was a Marshall at Breezy Bend. Dad was also a member of the ANAF No. 283 and Canadian Legion No. 4. In keeping with Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private service will be held celebrating his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Junior Golf Programs at the Assiniboine Golf Club or Breezy Bend Country Club in Dad's memory. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the Grace General Hospital. Through their true dedication, patience, compassion and care, they ensured Dad's stay there was made easier. Thank you!
