PETER MALEGUS Peter passed away peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital with his wife and members of his family at his bedside on Friday, February 23, 2007 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Louise (Trylinski) Malegus for 51 years. Loving father of Ross Malegus of Ottawa, Ken Malegus (Surley) of Regina and Peter Malegus (Chandra) of Winnipeg. Devoted grandfather of Paul Malegus of Ottawa, Dayton, Carter, Brooklyn and Ainsley Malegus of Winnipeg. Dear brother of Josie Stanko (the late Bill) of Winnipeg, Olga Chura (Stanley) of Beausejour, Kathleen Brunet (the late John) of Peers, AB, Nick (the late Sophie) of St. Andrews, Sam (Moira) of Winnipeg. Peter was predeceased by his mother Mary, his father Niketa, and brothers, John (Lena) of Dugald and Mike (Eleanore) of Winnipeg. Peter also leaves behind many nieces and nephews to mourn his passing. Born into a pioneering family from Melrose, MB on July 12, 1917, Peter was the third of eight children. After leaving the family farm Peter became a journeyman welder. Dad was a proud life member of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada Local (UA) Union No. 254 for 53 years. Dad's work took him to locations far from home for long periods of time. When he was home dad enjoyed visiting family and friends. Dad also enjoyed the outdoors with family and friends whether it was hunting for mushrooms or picking wild berries. Dad developed a real love for fishing over the years. As well, gardening became a favorite pastime in his retirement years. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Poseidon Care Centre for the quality of care Peter received from 2003 until the time of his death; and the staff of the Victoria General Hospital for easing his life into the next one. Prayers and viewing will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Father Michael Krochak officiating. The funeral service will take place at St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 31 Riel Street (St. Vital) on Friday, March 2, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Birds Hill Park Cemetery.
