PHYLLIS KATHLEEN KANDRACK (nee CALIGIURE) April 28, 1926 - February 24, 2007 Quietly, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, our mother and grandmother passed away in Palliative care at the St. Boniface Hospital in her 81st year. Phyllis will be deeply missed by sons, Joe, Tony and his children Michael, Carly and Lauren and their mother, Debbie (all in Toronto), daughter Mary-Anne Kandrack and her son Makenna Shreenan and son Tim as well as close family member Ron Hollingshead. She also leaves behind brother Mike (and his companion Helen), sisters, Mary Tataryn, Angie Duval (Ron), Connie Ulrich, Tootsie Michaluk (Ernie), sister-in-law Leona Caligiure, brother-in-law Bruce Hogan (Barb), the Kandracs and many nieces, nephews and their children to whom she was an attentive Auntie. She will also be missed by close friends Judy, Ollie, Helen, Lorraine, Leslie, Carol and Liz who stood out among a wide circle of friends and neighbours whose company she enjoyed. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Steve, parents, Francesco and Maria (nee Masi) Caligiure, in-laws, Jozef and Mary Kandrach, brother Peter, sister Josephine Hogan, nephew Larry Duval, sister-in-law Helen Caligiure and brothers-in-law, Bill Johnso, Nick Tataryn, and Rudy Ulrich. Our mother was born Filia Caligiure, the eldest daughter in a large and very close knit family who nurtured these bonds all their lives. Phyllis got together with her sisters and brother for regular visits over breakfast for many years. She was a loyal and loving wife and mother who adored her children and grandchildren. As she would put it, she lived for us. Not only did Mom love us all dearly, she worried for and about our well-being and was actively involved in our lives. Among her greatest pleasures were annual trips to Toronto to visit her grandchildren. Phyllis was also a generous and giving woman who would do anything she could to help others. She will be remembered for countless acts of kindness. Phyllis was dedicated to her parents and siblings and a hard worker who left school during the Depression at age 15 to help support them. Her first employer was Canada West Shoe and she retired some fifty years later, at age 65, after many years of service at Eaton's Polo Park. She enjoyed 17 years of retirement caring for her family, pursuing various hobbies such as knitting and crocheting, travel and, of course, bingo. The family extends sincere thanks for all of the medical care she received from CancerCare, 7A West and Palliative Care at St. Boniface Hospital. In particular, Phyllis was especially grateful for the outstanding nursing care she received on 7A West in the months that followed her surgery. Our brother Tim must be commended for his steadfast care and attention to Mom, especially during the course of her illness. She is now safe in the arms of God. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., with a celebration of her life in pictures and a reception to follow. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will occur in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the 7A West Social Fund at St. Boniface Hospital or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME 885-9715
