Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELWOOD ALFRED DEY August 24, 1922 February 28, 2007 After a lengthy illness on February 28, 2007, at the Selkirk General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, Elwood went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Left to remember him and cherish his memory is Elsie, his wife of 49 years; four children, Susan (Barry) Penziwol, Gerald (Colleen), Colleen Chudd (Jeff Epp) and Douglas (Janice); 10 grandchildren, Kimberly and Bradley Penziwol, Lauren, Connor and Amber Dey, Chantal (Brendan and great-granddaughter Hayley), Kristen and Tanner Chudd and Tyler and Talia Dey. He is also survived by two sisters, Mildred Brough (niece Jean) and Olive White (nephew Bill). He was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Mary Dey; and his son-in-law Calvin Chudd in 2001. Elwood was born and raised in Gypsumville and as a young man worked as a CNR express agent in St. Martin. He later pursued a career in teaching and taught for many years in God's Lake, Little Grand Rapids, Fisher River and Peguis. He was also principle at Fisher River for five years. The decision to teach brought the character of the man and the true honour of the profession together as one. A gentle man with a natural compassionate spirit, Elwood engaged everyone connected with him; students, family and friends alike. Coupled with his avid interest in many sports he challenged people to excel with both their minds and their bodies. Anything was possible with determination, effort and passion. In 1957 Elwood married Elsie Lee and together they raised their four children, finally settling in Gimli. Elwood was very committed to his faith. He was a long-standing member of Bayview Evangelical Free Church, where he served as elder for many years. He looked forward to meeting his Lord and Savior and beginning a new journey. We wish to express our thanks to Dr. Hussain and the nursing staff at the Selkirk Hospital for their compassion and care of Dad during the past week. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at Bayview Evangelical Free Church, Gimli, with Mike Timgren and Pastor Orval Janz officiating. Interment to follow at Dnister Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his two sons and four grandsons. In lieu of flowers donations in Elwood's memory may be made to Bayview Evangelical Free Church, Box 1709, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0. I have fought the good fight I have finished the race I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
