ARTHUR DOUGLAS GIFFORD It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Arthur Douglas Gifford (Doug) on February 11, 2007, at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 63 years. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Barbara; his mother Winifred; his children, Michael (Genevieve), Cameron (Ruth) and Marlene; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephanie, Alyshia, Hayden and Delaney; his brother Bruce; mother-in-law Jeanne Chamberlin; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Terry), Leeanne (Louie), and Cathy. Others left to mourn his passing are his many nieces and nephews, special friends, and his faithful feline companion Josephine. Doug was predeceased by his father Douglas in 1995. Doug was born on June 28, 1943, in Winnipeg and was raised in the West Kildonan area. At age 15 he met the love of his life, Barbara. They married in 1962 and together they raised three children. Doug and his family shared countless happy times together. Some of the happiest moments in his life were his family vacations, as Doug was especially fond of travel. The things we will miss most about Doug are his patient and gentle nature, his sense of humour, and his passion for life. We are also going to miss his Annual Wine Tasting parties and seeing his newest finds from his favourite store . Doug worked in the Information Technology field for most of his life. Over the years he worked for Air Canada, Gemini, Advantis and IBM (ISM). Technology was one of his favourite pastimes as well. In his retirement years he built countless PCs for family and friends, and was always around to help when your PC broke down. His eagerness to help did not stop at computers. Doug was a very handy person who was always willing to lend a hand wherever he was needed. He was a fantastic grandfather who loved spending time with his grandchildren. They will sadly miss the undivided attention he gave to them. When the little ones were around you could always count on Grandpa to play with them. At times he seemed like a kid himself when he would sit on the beach building sandcastles and digging moats to his grand-children's delight. Doug loved spending time at the family cottage at Grand Beach. He spent many happy hours fishing with his fishing buddies Bill and Marlene, playing with his grandchildren on the beach, relaxing on the deck with a good book, filling birdfeeders, building bird houses, and puttering about the cottage. His presence there will always be felt. We would like to thank all the wonderful doctors and especially the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit of St. Boniface Hospital and the many drivers from the Masons Volunteer Driving Program for CancerCare who made it so much easier to get to and from Doug's many appointments. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Room ON1160, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 9Z9. The family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Celebration will be held at the Glen Eden Funeral Home on Friday, March 9, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street 338-7111
