Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERTRUDE KNELMAN It is with great sadness that the family of Gertrude (Gertie) Knelman announces her passing on Friday, February 23, 2007 at the Riverview Health Center at the age of 93. Gertie Knelman was born in Winnipeg on April 10, 1913 to Moishe and Chinka Klasser, the second of five children. She graduated from St. John's High School and worked as a dental assistant for several years. In 1939, she married her high school sweetheart Harry Knelman, and together they lovingly and traditionally raised three daughters, who were the pride of their lives. Among her many interests and activities were bowling, mah jongg, reading, cooking, knitting, and in recent years, she became an avid bridge player. She and Harry were enthusiastic travellers and enjoyed their visits to Israel, Japan, Mexico, Hawaii and Europe. She wintered for several years in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the 1990s. She moved into the Waverley Retirement Community when it opened, and became a familiar, friendly and smiling face to all she met; she made many friends there, with whom she formed close relationships and who will miss their Gert . Gertie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She took great pride in the many accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, always encouraging and supporting them, and aware until the end of all their activities, travels and achievements. Their relationships were forged by deep and mutual love. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Harry in 1983 and is survived by her daughters, Sondra (George) Goodman, Phyllis (Ron) Levin, and Dena (Jack) Perlov. Also left to mourn are her grandchildren, Robin Goodman, Saul (Christine) Goodman, Corey (Shelley) Levin, Aaron Perlov and Lisa Perlov, as well as great-grandchildren, Rachel and Elisha Goodman. Funeral services were held at the Chevra Mishnayes Synagogue on Sunday, February 25, Rabbi P. Weizman officiating. Interment took place at the Rosh Pina Cemetery. A special thanks to her kind and considerate caregivers during the past year, Lena, Faye and Joanne, and to the dedicated staff at the Victoria Hospital and the Riverview Health Centre, and especially to all the caring and devoted staff at the Waverley Retirement Community. If friends and family so desire, contributions may be made to the Gertie and Harry Knelman Fund , c/o the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba (204-477-7525) or to a charity of their choice.
