SUSAN KLASSEN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Susan Klassen on Thursday, March 1, 2007, at the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home, at the age of 87 years. Susan was predeceased by her husband Peter; her parents; sisters, Annie, Margaret, Agnes and brother Henry. Mom will be deeply missed by her son Richard of Winnipeg; her six daughters, Hildegarde (Eugene) Obirek, Evelyne (Erik) Tagesen, both of Lac du Bonnet, Linda (Allan) Zasitko of Salmon River, NS, Sylvia (Nestor) Schur of Edmonton, AB, Dell (Bill) Corneil and Darlah (Dave) Klassen of Winnipeg; 14 grandchildren, Susan, Elliott, Sheila, Rhonda, Trevor, Tracy, Cory, T.J., Everett, Wayne, Ryan, David, Karalee and Peter; and 10 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn one brother Peter (Katy); two sisters, Marie and Tina; sister-in-law Sophie, many nieces, nephews and friends. Mom was born in Russia on September 27, 1919 to Henry and Margaret Loewen. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1926 and settled in Saskatchewan. In 1941 Mom moved to Manitoba to work and met her future husband Peter Klassen. They celebrated 58 years of marriage. Peter and Susan moved to Lac du Bonnet in 1953. Mom worked alongside Dad at the Imperial Oil Bulk Station. She once again became a stay at home mom after the birth of her son Richard. Seven children kept her busy but Mom always made time for her garden, flowers and houseplants. Mom was born with a green thumb. Mom took great pride in her faith and her membership in the Lutheran church. Once her children were raised she became more active with the Lac du Bonnet Horticulture Club and the Rebecca's. She was also an avid member of the Pioneer Club Kitchen Band. In her senior years, the Adult Day Program with its crafts, companionship, and outings became very important to Mom. In 2003 Mom moved to independent living at the apartments in the Boni Vista Lodge. Then due to failing health, Mom moved to the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home in September 2005. The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home who took excellent care of Mom. A special thanks to Dr. Van Gent for his great care of Mom. A family viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Highway #1 East at Navin Road (Winnipeg). A Celebration of Life for Susan Klassen will be held on Wednesday, March 7 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lac du Bonnet Legion. Pastor Glen Krantz of the Lutheran Church of the Cross will officiate. A family interment will take place in Green Acres Cemetery at 4:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made in Susan's memory to C.N.I.B. Manitoba, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3M3. Farewell Mom until we meet again. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery Hwy. #1 E. at Navin, (204) 222-3241
