HAROLD FRANKLIN JOHNSON Peacefully on March 2, 2007, Harold passed away at Grace Hospital at the age of 87 with his family at his side. Harold was born in Winnipeg on February 3, 1920. He is survived by his loving wife Connie; daughters, Sandra (Darcy), Carla (Darren), Kelly (Scott); grandchildren, Kirstyn, Chelsea, Aly, Shae, Devon and Sean, mother-in-law Leona Chatfield; brother-in-law Ron (Diane) and numerous nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by parents, Stefan and Jacobina; stepfather Bob Alexander; brother Harvey and wife Noni; sister Elin and husband Laurie Littleford; father-in-law Robert Chatfield and nephew Harvey Littleford . He volunteered for the Royal Canadian Navy and spent from 1939 - 1945 as a Leading Signalman on corvettes in the North Atlantic. Those who knew Harold would say that he delighted in a good story well told. He was a gentleman loved by many; his was a life well lived. His belief in never judging a book by its cover invited many people to his life, and he was ever the champion of the underdog. He enjoyed the friendship of many as past President of the Winnipeg Bridge Club, past member of Southwood and Glendale Golf Clubs, The Montefiore Club, Gimli Yacht Club, the original East St.Paul Fire Dept. and the East St. Paul School Board. His pride and joy was the development of the Selkirk Duplicate Bridge Club. He had his Life Master Bridge Certificate and attended tournaments in different parts of the world. With deep pride in his ancestry he was a member of the Selkirk Bruin Chapter of the National Icelandic League The family wishes to thank Dr. Joshua, Dr. George and the staff of 3 South at Grace Hospital, especially Connie, Susan, Rhianna, Steve, Karen and Chaplain Brenda, Selkirk Home Care, the Department of Veterans Affairs. A celebration of his life will be held at Gilbart's Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St. Selkirk, on Wednesday , March 7, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Hugo Unruh officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harold's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a rescue shelter of your choice would be gratefully appreciated.
