ANDREW WILLIAM KACHKOWSKY Unexpectedly at home in the Lockport district, Andrew William Kachkowsky, dearly beloved husband of Donna and dearest father of Cherisse and Jamie, aged 61 years, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2007. Andy was born in Selkirk, MB on September 10, 1945 and resided in East Selkirk in his earlier years. He was predeceased by his father Alexander, mother Ann, brother Allan, sister Dorothy and father-in-law Douglas Sutherland. Andy married Donna (nee Sutherland) on September 27, 1969 where they resided in the Lockport district. His life was brightened when his daughter Cherisse was born August 4, 1975. Andy was extremely proud of Cherisse and her accomplishments and they enjoyed a very close and loving father and daughter relationship. Cherisse's partner Jamie Sagar was welcomed into our family and Andy thought of him and treated Jamie as his son and took such great care of all of us. His earlier work experience was at Brown's Bread, Booth Fisheries and Selkirk Beverages Coke Plant as a driver-salesman and nearly 30 years at Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation in Transcona where he retired June 2, 2002 after many years of hard work. Andy had a special love for his childhood home on Ferry Road in East Selkirk where he enjoyed hunting, boating, swimming and fishing on Cook's Creek. Andy thoroughly enjoyed his retirement when he had more time to spend with family and friends, work in his yard and on the numerous projects and hobbies he loved so much to keep him active and busy. He especially enjoyed going to garage sales, taking his family and friends on rides in his van and going for Sunday morning breakfasts, barbeques at home, family get-togethers and dinners and decorating his yard during various holidays during the year. Andy was very mechanically inclined and had a lifelong interest in maintaining and fixing up cars, trucks, tractors, lawn mowers, snow machines and motorcycles and had spent many hours with his hobby tow truck all over the countryside of Manitoba. Andy loved collecting and selling anything old and antique, listening to 1950s, 1960s and 1970s music, watching old cowboy movies and had quite a collection of hats. Anyone who knew Andy knows of his other talent for wheeling and dealing which was another of his hobbies that had kept him busy and making new friends for many years as Andy was very personable. Wherever he went he would meet at least one person he knew from his various journeys. He was also an animal lover who enjoyed the company of his poodle Sandy for 18 years while she was with us, his cat Meow-Meow, Cherisse and Jamie's bird Coco and their dog Brandy who adored him and waited for his visits and van rides and his special treats to her. He also enjoyed watching the birds who came to feed at his bird feeders in the yard. Andy suffered a heart attack in January 1995 and after successful heart bypass surgery in June 1995 we are thankful for the care given to him by his cardiologist Dr. John Rabson. Andy will also be lovingly remembered and missed by his brother and sister-in-law Alex and Diane and their children, Laurie and Kelly; his sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Larry Swanson and their family, Vincent, Jeannine and Tyler; sister-in-law Elsie and her children, Denise, Dawn, Trevor and Lisa and their families; his dear mother-in-law Martha Sutherland; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jean and Bill Atkins and niece and nephew Jonna and Johnny Sagar; brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Addie Sutherland, niece and nephew, Colleen and Darren Otto and children, Kiersten and Khylie, niece Heather and her partner Beau and niece and nephew Marlene and Dan Keillor and the many lifelong friends, aunts and uncles, cousins and co-workers and neighbours. Andy was a happy man who loved to amuse us with his jokes, teasing and tall tales. He had a gift of making us laugh and smile and he was so much fun to be around and we will cherish all the times spent with him. With beautiful memories, you will be in our lives and hearts forever. Happy trails to you, until we meet again. All our love. Cremation has taken place and a service of remembrance and celebration for his life will be held at Christ Church, 227 McLean Avenue, Selkirk, MB, on Wednesday, March 7 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brad Elliott officiating. A private family interment will follow at a later date. If desired, donations in memory of Andy may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Street, Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3.
