ANNIE EWASIUK (MALCHUK) It is with sadness that the family announces that Annie died on March 5, 2007, at the Dr. Gendreau Memorial Personal Care Home in Ste. Rose du Lac, MB. She was 91 years of age. Born on October 25, 1915, at Horod, MB, she was raised and attended school in that district. On November 2, 1935, Annie married John Ewasiuk of Horod. They farmed in the area until 1942 at which time they moved to Lake Audy. In 1964 Annie and John moved to Wheatland where they operated a grocery store and lunch bar. Upon retirement, Annie and John moved to an acreage west of Onanole. They lived there until 1994 when John suffered a stroke and his health necessitated their move to Dauphin. John and Annie celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary shortly before John died in 2001. She moved to Ste. Rose the same year to reside with her daughter and son-in-law. In 2004 her health required that she move to the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home. There she made friends with staff and residents and enjoyed many activities and outings. Annie was a kind and caring person who always supported her family and friends. She loved to cook, garden, travel, and always enjoyed company at her home. She spent many years enjoying the farming lifestyle: she loved to prepare meals and take them to the field during threshing, spent many hours baking, canning, pickling and being part of community life. Annie made her home a special place for visitors. She made many people feel comfortable and at ease. She made sure company always had something for a lunch before they left. She had a very positive outlook on life and strong Christian beliefs that made her a wonderful role model for her family. Annie is survived by her daughters, Elsie Olson of Winnipeg and Ella (Bill) Wynn of Ste. Rose du Lac; and daughter-in-law Helen Ewasiuk of Lake Audy. There are nine grandchildren, Ron (Val), Everett, Jeff (Rhonda) and Kara (John) of Winnipeg; Jacqueline of Onanole; John Robert (Lillian), Karl, Kristina of Montreal and Michael (Monica) of Ottawa. Annie's 12 great-grandchildren are: Kirsten, Jessica, Amber, Vanessa, Kira, Sabrina, John, Carter, Savannah, Evan, Jean-Paul and Hanna. Annie is also survived by her brother Ted Malchuk of Winnipeg; sisters-in-law, Rose Malchuk of Edmonton, Carol Ewasiuk of Elphinstone and Rose Ewasiuk of Onanole; along with numerous nephews and nieces. Annie was predeceased by her parents Fred and Margaret (Dmyterko) Malchuk; husband John Ewasiuk; sons, Maurice and Larry, an infant daughter; her son-in-law Ron Olson; her brother Steve Malchuk; her sister Ella Zemianski and brother-in-law Frank Zemianski; her sister-in-law Jean Malchuk; as well as many other family members. Active pallbearers are Annie's grandchildren. Cross bearer is nephew Rick Malchuk. Everyone in attendance is to consider themselves honorary pallbearers. Prayers will be said on Thursday, March 8, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. with funeral on Friday, March 9, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., both from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Elphinstone, MB. Rev. Emil Kardasinec will officiate. Interment will follow in the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery at Horod, MB. Family would like to sincerely thank Dr. O'Hagen and the caring and compassionate staff at the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home for taking care of Annie over the last few years and keeping her comfortable in her final days. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Brandon Chapter, 203 - 42 McTavish Ave. E., Brandon, MB R7A 2B2, the Ste. Rose and District Handi-van, Box 624, Ste. Rose du Lac, MB R0L 1S0, or a charity of one's choice. Rae's Funeral Service of Shoal Lake has care of arrangements.
