MILDRED MAY TYSON (nee ROUND) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Mildred May Tyson on Sunday, March 4, 2007, at the Concordia Hospital, at the age of 94 years. May was predeceased by her infant son Terrance, her parents, her sister Vera and her brother Ron. Mom will be deeply missed by her seven children, Ronald, Margaret (Gordon) Ashcroft, Evelyn (Stan) Schriber, David (Dorothy), Lorne (Sandy), Joe (Debbie), Pam (Vince) Urso; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. May was born on February 6, 1913, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to John and Florence Round. She moved in 1921 to the newly formed town of Nakina, Ontario, becoming one of the first settlers in a place that she held dear in her heart forever. She enjoyed swimming in Rounds Lake (named after her family), skiing, snowshoeing and sliding down hills on a bear skin toboggan. It was not unusual for May and her friends to walk 10 or 15 miles to the nearest town, then hop on a push car and ride the rails back home. She had many friends from the Nakina area, and we loved to hear her stories of hunters and trappers from this area who were neighbours and family friends. May had a wonderful memory and could recite many poems and phrases that she had learned in elementary school. She loved to do crossword puzzles and any unanswered questions were always referred to Mom as she always knew the answer. She was a loving mother who took pride in her children and truly enjoyed the company of her family. May married Charles Tyson in 1937 and later moved to Scarborough, Ontario, where she made many lifelong friends. She moved with her family to Transcona, MB, in 1954 where she was a homemaker for many years. She moved to Donwood Manor in 2003 and enjoyed many games of bingo and weekly crib games with her new friends there. We would like to thank the nurses and staff at Concordia Hospital for their kind care of our mother. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service in celebration of May's life will take place on Sunday, March 18, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Donwood Manor, 165 Donwood Dr. Flowers are gratefully declined in favour of a kind gesture to another person.
