ELLEN FRANCES NELIN (nee DOWNEY) 1920 2007 Ellen Frances Nelin died peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital on March 6, 2007. Ellen was the youngest of seven, a farm girl, a bank teller, a wife, a mother of five, a widow, a Winnipeg School Board employee, and a grandmother of eight. She was born in Moore Park, Manitoba where she met her future husband John Sinclair Nelin, a school teacher. She was a devoted mother. After Clair's death in 1953 her life was filled with raising and supporting her family. Throughout her life she had many happy times with her five sisters and loved and adored her children and grandchildren. Ellen is survived by her sons, Barry and Grant (Margot), and her grandchildren: Gwyneth Cook (Ken), Cameron Nelin, Jason Nelin, Matthew Nelin, Danelle Gaudry (Matt), Lindsey Peters (Jason), Douglas Gaudry, and Lesley Nelin. Ellen lived life with the belief that it is a great life if you are strong which greatly assisted her during the difficult periods associated with the deaths of daughter Margaret in 1985, son Ralph in 1986, and son Douglas in 2006. She will be sadly missed by all her family. Ellen had many friends; her neighbours on Clifton Street, her coworkers at the Winnipeg School Board, at the West End Senior Centre, her monthly card group, and at Fred Douglas Place, her residence in later years.. She enjoyed her relationships with her son-in-law Don Gaudry, and daughters-in-law, Linda Nelin, Margaret Gibson, and Irene Fritschi-Nelin. The family wishes to thank the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for their care over the past year. A graveside service for family at the St. James Cemetery will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9. A celebration of Ellen's life will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue; (entrance on Aubrey Street).
