GEORGIA SKLAVENITIS (nee ANASTOPOULOS) Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, Georgia Sklavenitis passed away on March 4, 2007, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her parents Panos and Olga Anastopoulos; sister Kiki Anstou; brother Constantine (February 26, 2007); and sister-in-law Katerina Sklavenitis. She is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Andrew; daughter Angie, son-in-law Mike Houvardas, their children, Alexander and Stephanie; daughter Olga and fiancé Santiago. She is also survived by her sister Voula Sloumatis (Nick) in Greece; brother Harry Anastopoulos (Harriet) in California; brother-in-law Vissarion Sklavenitis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Georgia was born on June 13, 1939, in Zoni, Arkadias, Greece, and came to Winnipeg in 1960 to join her brother and sister. She became a hairdresser and worked at Mario's at Polo Park where she met her husband Andrew. Georgia worked alongside her husband at the family business, Andrew's Hair Salon, until the onset of her illness. Georgia was a kind and compassionate woman who devoted her life to her family. She was warm and generous to all who knew her. Georgia was diagnosed with lupus in the early 1980s and suffered terribly as a result of this disease. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. P.G. Mehta, head nurse Carmel and her staff at 4DE Tache Centre for their compassion and exceptional care over the years, and to Dr. Harlos of Palliative Care and the nursing staff at St. Boniface hospital 5th floor B for making her final days comfortable. Prayers will take place at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave., on Wednesday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. with the funeral service on Thursday, March 8 at 11:00 a.m., also at the church, with Father D. Gianniou officiating. Interment will follow at Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley St. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
