LAURA FEDORICK (nee ZASTRE) It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts the family of Laura Fedorick announces her sudden passing at the age of 80 on March 3, 2007. Left to mourn her passing are her loving daughters, Gail Wence (David) and Irene Kazuska (Howard); and her beloved grandson Mitchell Wence (Rochelle). Mom was predeceased by Dad (John), her parents, Auriella and Louis Zastre; brothers, Leo and Allan Zastre; and sister Stella Hiebert. Mom was born on December 21, 1926, and grew up in Pigeon Lake, Manitoba. She loved sports and was on the local baseball team. Academically, Mom excelled and was a champion speller. Mom's professional calling was nursing, and she took her training in Portage la Prairie. She provided exemplary care to her patients at St. Boniface Hospital, St. Boniface Sanatorium, and later St. Amant Centre. Most of Mom's nursing was done at St. Amant Centre with the special children she cared for with empathy and kindness. Mom's strong leadership skills came through as a founding member of the LPN Association, and she assumed the role of president of that Association. Her guidance and vision is felt still to this day. Mom retired from nursing in 1988 and enjoyed the freedom of travel to British Columbia, the Ukraine, Las Vegas and Florida. Retirement allowed Mom the time to pursue her many pleasures. Her continued love of baseball was enjoyed through her favourite team, the Toronto Blue Jays, and she loved tending to her beautiful begonias in the summer. Mom derived great joy from her family - her family always was her consuming passion. She was a loving, compassionate soul with a gentle nature that was recognized by everyone who met her. Mom also had a deep religious devotion to Mother Youville. Mom's beauty, wit and terrific sense of humor will always be remembered and cherished. The family would like to extend a grateful thank you to Dr. Karen Humphries and the nursing staff of 5B at St. Boniface Hospital. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Sister Rose for her compassion and support during this difficult time. According to Mom's wishes cremation has taken place and no service will be held. A private family interment will follow.
