JOHN CHERNYSH With deep sorrow and sadness we announce the passing of John Chernysh, aged 94 years, of Meleb, Manitoba, on Sunday, March 4, 2007, at the Selkirk General Hospital. John was predeceased by his parents Dora and Nykola Chernysh; young siblings, his brother Steve (1971); sister Tekla Kryzanowski (1989) and husband Alec (1968); niece Pauline Kozun (1990); and cousin Steve (1989) of Alberta. Left to cherish his memory is his niece Anne (George) Steffensen of Winnipeg; great-nephews, Danny (Denise) Steffensen (children, Kevin and Samantha), David (Dawn) and Jim (fiancé Diane); Morris Kozun of Alberta (and his three daughters and their families); and the Alex Sokolowski family of Meleb, MB. His presence in our lives will be profoundly missed. John was born and raised in Meleb, MB. He loved his Meleb home and truly enjoyed visits from his family and friends. John loved the outdoors, animals, tending to his garden, picking berries and watching the birds. He also enjoyed reading and listening to music, especially Ukrainian songs. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Habtu Demsas, nurses and staff at the Betel Home and Selkirk General Hospital, also the paramedics for their care and compassion. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 9 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli, with viewing being held one hour prior to. Interment will follow in the Parkside Cemetery, Meleb, MB. Pallbearers will be great-nephews and local friends. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to all the other doctors, nurses, paramedics and healthcare staff that provided compassionate care for John over the past years. There is a bridge of golden memories, From here to heaven above, That keeps you very close to us, It's called the bridge of love. Your memory is our keepsake, With which we'll never part, God has you in His keeping, We have you in our hearts. Till we meet again.
