MARION JOLIVET (nee BUDDICK) August 2, 1911 March 6, 2007 Peacefully on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, Marion Jolivet passed away at Deer Lodge Centre. Marion was predeceased by her loving husband, Lucien (Louie) Joseph Jolivet in l989; her parents; and her four brothers: Peter; George; Thomas (Nettie) and Steve Buddick. Left to cherish her memory are sisters-in-law, Ruby Buddick and Christina Haggerty (Jack), plus numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Marion was born and educated in Portage la Prairie. Following high school, she was employed at the Portage Hotel and Woolworth's Store in Winnipeg. Marion met Louie Jolivet, the love of her life, in St. Boniface. He had just accepted a position with a printing firm in Toronto and, once settled, persuaded Marion to join him. They married in November, 1941, and were absolutely devoted to one another. For nearly 25 years, Marion served as clerk at the University of Toronto Library. During evenings and weekends, she worked side by side with her husband, putting in long hours to develop their own business. They first owned and operated Yorkdale Printing; later, Vaughan Printing and Lithographic Co. In l975, they sold the business and returned to Winnipeg to live out their retirement years. A generous, hard-working lady with a passion for gardening, Marion looked forward each spring to shopping for bedding plants. She spent hours lovingly tending her flowers and it gave her such a deep sense of pride when neighbours and strangers alike admired her backyard. She was also an active member of the African Violet Society for many years and her house plants often won awards at local flower shows. Poodles were Marion's second love. She owned a total of nine dogs over her lifetime the last and probably most loved being Gidget. Gidgi became her dear and constant companion and, in recent years when her hearing began to fail, Marion depended heavily on her dog to announce whenever someone rang the doorbell. We are so thankful that Aunty Marion was blessed with good health and was able to enjoy living in her own home until age 95. Special thanks are extended to Dr. S. Permack, Dr. G. Griggs, and the nursing staff at Victoria General Hospital and Deer Lodge Centre for their care and compassion. A funeral service officiated by The Reverend Bruce Martin will be held at the Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Waverley Memorial Gardens.
