BRIAN LEIGHTON MARGOLIS Peacefully with his family by his side, Brian Margolis passed away February 23, 2007 at the age of 67 after a courageous battle with cancer. Brian was predeceased by his father Major and his brother Marshall. He leaves to mourn his mother Connie, his loving wife of 46 years Zlota and their children, Billy (Christinne), Scott (Marnie) and Jill (Steven). Brian's grandchildren, Ethan, Brooke, Lee and Andie will miss him tremendously. Brian was born into a loving family on October 8, 1939. After graduating from high school Brian went on to work and eventually become President of Dominion Lumber Winnipeg Ltd. Brian dedicated his entire working life to the lumber business where he was respected by his customers and coworkers alike for the honesty, integrity and hard work he displayed on a daily basis. He had a magnetic personality and an incredible sense of humour that touched everyone he came in contact with. Brian was an incredibly passionate person and that passion came thru in whatever undertaking he chose. He was a great collector of antiques and vintage automobiles and he loved to spend his free time going to any type of auction. Upon his retirement he became a courtroom junkie , frequenting trials at the Manitoba Law Courts building on a daily basis with his regular group of buddies. Brian and Zlota enjoyed their winters in Florida and their summers at the family cottage in Pelican Beach where they developed many great friendships over the last ten years. Brian's greatest sense of accomplishment came from his family. He loved to spend time with his kids and felt a great sense of pride knowing that he raised good responsible children. He especially valued and made the most of the time he had with his grandchildren. Brian loved being Gramps . He would go to any lengths to bring a smile to the face of all his grandchildren. Brian was an incredible spirit whose passion for life and sense of humour will be remembered by all. He touched the lives of many people; his was a life well lived. Funeral services were held February 25 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Pallbearers were his son-in-law Steven Atnikov, Brian Aronovitch, Arnold Conner, Myron Borden, Rob Lee, Dick Rothberg, David Solomon and Ted Solomon. Honorary pallbearers were Penny Aronovitch, Marilyn Trepel, Allan Stern, Maynard Bischon and David Applebaum. The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses from CancerCare Manitoba that helped Brian fight his disease. As well the family would like to thank all his home caregivers and the staff at the palliative care unit in the St. Boniface Hospital who provided both Brian and his family with tremendous care and support. As well a special thank you to Dr. Werier, Dr. Bourque and Lynne Fineman for going above and beyond the call of duty in their care for Brian.
