LAURA LEE GRANT Laura Lee Grant passed away in Burns Lake, BC on February 20, 2007. Predeceased recently by her father Ulderic she is survived by her mother Irene, sisters, Shelagh and Jocelyn, nieces, Jacquie (Jordan and Bailey) and Lynette, and friend Richard Bovey. An Honours graduate of the University of Manitoba, Laura Lee continued her studies at the University of Calgary graduating from the Faculty of Law. At graduation she was presented with The Jimmy Hoffa-Mae West Award , a new award created especially in her honour. After articling with the Chief Justice she went on to establish a solo practice in criminal and family law in Calgary. In 1997 she relocated to Burns Lake, BC quickly gaining a solid reputation in the local legal community as a tenacious and formidable opponent. She took on the responsibility of Ad Hoc Provincial Court Prosecutor willingly when called upon. Along the way between stints in university she had a number of interesting and challenging jobs that few females even today would tackle. In 1974 she bullied the Teamsters into getting her a job driving a rock wagon on the Long Spruce Hydro dam. Friendships she made there lasted her lifetime. The year before she entered law school she worked in a mine in Granisle, BC and fell in love with Bulkley Valley. At the time of her death her dream of farm life and a log home was in the works on her property south of Burns Lake. It is not trite to say Laura Lee was one of a kind. Her wit, her humour, her exuberance, and her generous heart will always be remembered by friends and family. A gathering of friends will be held in the Legion Hall in Burns Lake, BC on March 24 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
