Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAWRENCE (LARRY) COLLINS February 24, 1929 - March 4, 2007 With his wife by his bedside holding his hand, Larry passed away peacefully on March 4, 2007 at Grace Hospital. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 42 years, Mary, his sister Maureen (Ron) Tyas, Branton, England; Jean (Frank) Treanor, Derby, England; his special niece Janine (Steve) Treanor, Greenwood, Nova Scotia. Also many loving nieces and nephews in both England and Canada. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Maude and Charles Collins of Doncaster, England. Larry was born in Armthorpe Yorkshire, England on February 24, 1929. As a boy, he joined the army cadets and at the young age of 15 he joined the Royal Artillery as a boy soldier. During a tour in Western Canada in 1963, he met his future wife Mary. They were married in Swift Current two years later. During his army career, Larry spent time in Libya, South Korea, Norway, Denmark and Germany. While in South Korea as a Sergeant, he was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for his command of a multilingual United Nations Platoon. Upon being promoted to WOI, his last two years were served at Terendak Camp in Malaysia. After his army career ended in 1969, Larry and Mary immigrated to Canada where they settled in Winnipeg. Larry drove for Grey Goose Bus Lines for 24 years, retiring in 1994. Larry loved sports. During his career in the army he played field hockey and soccer. He loved playing golf and for many years was a member of Breezy Bend Golf and Country Club, ANAVETS 283, Over 55 and Retired Club, and the British Legion. He also followed English soccer on T.V. and supported Manchester United. Also to the Salvation Army Chaplains. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, at the intersection of Cavalier and Hamilton Avenue, on March 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Larry's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200-6, Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6 or to Saint James Lutheran Church, 871 Cavalier Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R2Y 1C7.
