Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH MICHAEL SUFFRON 1946 - 2007 In sadness we announce the passing of Ken after a courageous fight against a painful cancer. Ken left us on March 8, 2007, at Riverview Health Centre with his family by his bedside. Ken leaves to mourn his devoted wife and companion Nadine; daughter Ashleigh; son Ryland (Natalie) O'Neill of Regina, son Matthew of Banff, son Ronald of Hawaii; mother Virginia of Vancouver; stepbrother Bob of Halifax; and uncle and aunt Art and Swan Suffron of Texas. Ken was predeceased by his father Ken Suffron; sister Patricia Charter; stepbrother Ted Suffron; and brothers-in-law, Timothy and Marlo Thomas. Ken was born on April 25, 1946, and lived in Winnipeg his entire life. He developed a passion for sports as a child, which continued throughout his life. Grant Park High School introduced him to football, which he excelled at and continued to play into his senior years; many of these cherished friendships remained strong through the decades. After football his love of sports and competition continued with racquetball, becoming a Canadian Seniors Champion; squash, playing at a provincial A level for many years; tennis, on a recreational level, enjoying the many friendships and social activities involved with the game. Golf was his love of all sports, and Ken was happiest walking an 18-hole golf course, carrying his bag on his shoulders and at some point during the game, lighting up a cigar. Memories of the many hours spent with his golf buddies, teeing up for that perfect game and all the stories that went with them gave him much pleasure near the end. Ken opened his agency and worked as a self-employed manufacturer's representative primarily in the sporting goods and athletic equipment industry for the past 35 years. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at CancerCare Manitoba and Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care and dedication to managing Ken's pain. Special thanks to Eileen and Gerald Austen for their continuous support, care, concern and prayers throughout Ken's illness. Cremation has taken place, a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Interment will take place immediately after the service at Holy Angel Mausoleum, Hwy. No. 1 at Navin Road, followed by a gathering of family and friends in the Glen Lawn Reception Centre. In appreciation of dedicated friendships, Ken requested honorary pallbearers: Ken Lougheed, Wade Osipa, Glen Ziprick, Jim Danylishin, Archie Chawla, Jim Sloan, Brent Graham and Wade Christensen. It was Ken's request that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation Manitoba Chapter. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550

Ken was a good friend of Paul Dempsey - deceased in 1990 - and the 3 of us had some good times trying to meet the same girls, cruising around town in our cars, etc. That only lasted one summer but I still cherish walking the school halls with them. The thing then was to protect your babes because anyone could punch you in the gut while you weren't looking. He almost folded me up, but I think I did the same to him. Ken was a great athlete, hurdles were his best event then & basketball. He was dun to hang out with & I am sorry his family lost him while he was still so young. - Posted by: John Ellis (School) on: May 26, 2014
