VIOLET JEANETTE JOHNSON (nee ADAMS) October 18, 1932 - March 8, 2007 Peacefully, surrounded by family, Violet, widow of Allan Johnson, passed away at the Selkirk General Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Allan Johnson; parents, Ernest and Gertrude Adams; son-in-law Jerry Sutherland; brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Lillian Adams. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, daughter Janis Sutherland (Jim Boyd), Calgary, AB; son Les Sabiston (Jorunn McEvoy), Cold Lake, AB; son Laurie Sabiston (Pam Rice), Selkirk, MB; grandchildren, Stacey Bent (Steve); Shane Sutherland (Becky) of Calgary; Corry Sabiston (Chelan) of Revelstoke, BC; Leslie, Candace, Brooke and Ryland Sabiston of Selkirk, MB; and great-grand-children, Taylor and Brooklyn Bent and Sailor and Jette Sabiston; brother Wayne (Linda) Adams, sister Bernice (Craig) Taylor and numerous nieces and nephews. Vi was born and raised in Selkirk. Along with raising her family, she was employed at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre for 26 years, as a nurse's aide, retiring in 1987. Her grand-children were the love of her life and she was a very special aunt to her nieces and nephews. All the children knew that there would be a cookie waiting for them when they went to visit. Vi had a great sense of humour and always enjoyed a good laugh. She had an abundance of friends which were very important to her. Her children will always remember how much they loved having a good laugh with their mom. Vi also had a great love and appreciation for music. She couldn't resist a good fiddle song and had the ability to identify the fiddler just by hearing the tune. Vi loved the days she spent camping with her husband Al, whether it be right here in Selkirk or away to enjoy the countryside. Vi and Al did some travelling and enjoyed their trips to Hawaii with close friends. Vi was a longtime member of the Selkirk Legion where she spent many years in the over 60 Club. We all will remember Violet's kindness and warm heart. We would like to acknowledge her special friends, Jean Begg and Sigga Mitchell. Vi enjoyed the many outings and expeditions with Jean. Our family appreciated Jean showing Vi the ropes . Special thanks to Merle, Pam and Ian for their special attention to Vi. The family would like to thank all the nurses and emergency room doctors at the Selkirk General Hospital, and Home Care girls for all their care and support during her illness. Prayers will be held on Monday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, MB. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Anglican Church, Selkirk, MB with Rev. Brad Elliott officiating. Cremation to follow and burial ceremony will be held at a later date. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Leslie Sabiston, Shane Sutherland, Stacey Bent, Candace Sabiston, Corry Sabiston and her nephews, Ian Adams and Darren Taylor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christ Anglican Church, 227 McLean Ave., Selkirk, MB R1A 0T7 or to the Canadian Diabetic Association.
