ED KAHLER It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ed on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 74 years. He left this world to join his wife Kaye. Remaining to forever cherish Ed's memory are his brother Brian (Louise); sisters, Pauline (Doug), Margaret (Ray), Kay (Ken); sistersinlaw, Marg and Ann; as well as many nephews, nieces, many good friends and neighbours who were always there when Kaye and Ed needed help. He was predeceased by wife Kaye on March 16, 2002; father John; mother Christina; brothers, Peter and Charlie; and sister Rose. Born in the District of Ashern, Manitoba in the Interlake area, when Ed was 10, the family sold the homestead and moved to Winnipeg, residing in Brooklands. The house was pretty crowded for the family of seven children and three adults as they had grandfather staying with them. The family lived there for a few years with everyone working together. The family then bought a bigger house on Elgin Avenue. It gave them more room after one more child was born. Slowly his brothers and sisters got married and moved on their own. Ed was the last one at home. Getting his first job at the age of sixteen at a Cap Factory blocking caps for $18.00 a week, Ed worked for the Cap Factory for three years. He then left Winnipeg to work in the bush, that job lasted for two years. When the job was over, Ed went to work in the Mine at Snow Lake. He stayed there for a year, and then returned to Winnipeg to work at C.N.R. power house in Fort Rouge, where he unloaded coal from boxcars for a few years. When he was laid off from the railway, Ed went back to blocking caps for Dominion Hat and Cap, where he met Kaye, his wife to be. It must have been love at first sight. They were always together, finally getting married on June 13, 1970 the hottest day of the year. They spent over 30 years together before Kaye passed away in 2002. Ed always said that they were the best years of his life. In 1967, Ed went into the service station business with his brother Charlie. They were in the service station business for 17 years in Charleswood and three years in the Maples. In 1987, they gave up the service station. Ed went to work for Inner Tec Security working as a security guard for the St. Boniface Hospital until he retired in 1998. Ed and Kaye took a month off work every year to travel. The first trip they made was to Mexico, then to BC, Edmonton, Vegas, California, Hawaii, Grand Forks and Shooting Star. The last trip they made was to a niece's wedding and visit friends in Edmonton. When they returned from Edmonton they stayed closer to home, taking care of the garden, yard and house. Kaye was not up to doing anymore travelling. When Kaye passed on, Ed was left all alone to carry on with the work at home. Ed was grateful for the help he got from friends and neighbours. He could always count on them to help when needed. On Friday, March 16 at 1:00 p. m., Ed's funeral service will be held in the Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue (corner of Mount Royal road and Ness Avenue). For those who wish, parking is available in the Seventh Day Adventist Church parking lot located on Ness Avenue. I would like to thank you all for being our friends and neighbours and all the help you gave us. Take care of yourselves until we meet again. Forever Love, Ed and Kaye Ed's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 4665
