GEORGE STANLEY MARSHALL 1908 - 2007 Stan's life was marked by his lifelong determination to give back more than he took from this world. He died peacefully, enveloped in the love of his family, on Saturday, March 10, 2007. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Sheila Koch (Duane) and children, Marnie Linder (Kevin), John Koch (Margot Irvine), Tom Koch (Loretta), Peter Koch (Keri) and James Koch (Terry); Linda Garvey (Gary) and children, Laura Schiml (Trevor), Robert Garvey (Alison), Sarah Garvey (Kirtus Closen) and Heather Karavas (Demetri); Bob Marshall (Joan) and children, David (Michele Rybuck), Alexander and Craig. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren. Stan was born in Greenway, Manitoba, the eldest child of British immigrants. He started working for the Bank of Montreal in 1925 at the age of 17, working conscientiously in many branches in Manitoba and Saskatchewan for 44 years, his last posting as manager of Fort Garry branch. In 1935 he married schoolteacher Margaret Naylor. They had a steadfast and loving union of 68 years, until her death in April 2004. He and Margaret loved to dance, especially in their retirement, which found them travelling to Texas, and later living in Victoria, BC. Stan was an active member of The United Church of Canada, serving for many years as elder, steward and board member. Stan was an avid cribbage player, photographer, bowler, stamp collector and gardener. He loved to work with wood, meticulously planning and building many projects, large and small, for his family. He took great delight in the activities of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We would like to thank the staff of Fred Douglas Heritage House and Concordia Place for their capable and compassionate care. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Stan's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2, or to a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Concordia Place, 1000 Molson St., on Saturday, March 17, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Eleanor Geib and Reverend John Friesen officiating. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date at MacGregor, Manitoba. NEIL BARDAL INC 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
