NORMAN CLIFFORD CROCKER LOAT (NORM LOAT) 1947 - 2007 With a deep sigh and a warm smile, our beloved husband, father, brother and friend left us to remember him. On the evening of Sunday, March 11, after a brave fight with cancer, stormin' Norman surrounded by those he loved, rested his body. Left to remember him, are his wife Lynn, daughters, Jennifer (Roy) and Allison, sister Juanita, brother David (Marilyn), sisters-in-law, Raija and Faye, nephews and nieces, Jim (Margaret), Colin, Todd, Kurt (Jennifer), Paul, Chris (Sarah), Brian (Tammy), Cheryl (Tracey) and many dear and close friends, who Norm always considered family. Norm had a true passion for life. He enjoyed each day for all it had to offer and learned to live each one as if it were his last. A lover of music, he enjoyed singing with the The Back Pew Boys. He expanded this passion to the bodhrán, which he played with a deep connection to those around him. Norm worked at the University of Winnipeg for over 30 years and enjoyed sharing stories of the great people he worked with. His belief in the joy of life spread to his work, where he treated people with openness, honesty, fairness and respect; four things he later learned were part of the First Nations seven teachings. Norm was also proud of his two girls, never too shy to tell people what his daughters were up to, he made sure they had their own identities and found their own paths in life and he prepared them well. Norm enjoyed telling people of his son-in-law's hopes and dreams, and found much comfort in knowing Roy would be there to help take care of his three lovely ladies. When the stars and planets aligned, Norm met Lynn and they enjoyed 15 years of growing together. They shared in everything and nothing was more magical than watching the two of them glide across the dance floor as if they were the only two people in the room. Norm left an impression on everyone he met, and will be missed dearly. We the family wish to thank the many earth bound angels that helped him through his final journey. A service of celebration will begin Saturday, March 17, 2:00 p.m. at Selkirk United Church and will conclude with a time of laughter and sharing at the Christ Church. Guests are invited to come with a story (or two), and no clown nose will be turned awayNorm treasured laughter, and we welcome those who will share it with us. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Selkirk United Church or the CancerCare Foundation of Manitoba. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
