WILLIAM HENRY ERNEST FARMER July 1, 1913 - March 13, 2007 Ernest Farmer passed away peacefully at Rosewood Lodge, Stonewall, on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. He was born in Manitou, MB, July 1, 1913. He married Ada Tremeer April 4, 1938, and moved to Portage la Prairie where he worked as a mechanic. In 1939 they moved to the Balmoral area where they farmed until 1996, then retiring to Stonewall. Ernest loved farming and cherished his horses Queenie and Flicka, retiring them for a Massey Harris and John Deere AR tractors. Even in his later years, he enjoyed going up to the elk farm and inspecting the green machine, starting by turning the fly wheel, just to make sure it would still run. There wasn't any part of the tractor he couldn't take apart, repair and put back together. He always helped out his neighbours while on the farm, be it running the threshing machine, blowing snow or returning people's animals unknown to them when they escaped. Right up until recent years, after moving to Stonewall, he loved helping out his daughter and son on their farms. Ernest loved his sports, be it five pin bowling at Stonewall lanes or lawn bowling at Stonewall and Tuxedo Bowling Clubs. He loved baseball and hockey, cheering on the local teams. Ernest was predeceased by his wife Ada; parents Jack and Maude; sister Lenore; and brother Jack. Surviving are son Mervin (Luella); daughter Myrna (Russ) Oliver; grandchildren, Brenda (Len) Rust, Blair (Tracy), Lana (Jeff) Meier, Derwin (Wendy), Tricia (Damon) Poole, Paula (Paul) Munroe, Trevor (Kelly), Wayne (Bonny) Oliver and Cheryl (Ron) Kaatz; and 22 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be his eight grandsons, Blair, Derwin and Trevor Farmer, Wayne Oliver, Ron Kaatz, Jeff Meier, Paul Munroe and Len Rust. Funeral service will be held in the Stonewall United Church on Saturday, March 17 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Stonewall Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stonewall United Church, Box 1099, Stonewall, MB R0C 2Z0, or a charity of one's choice. Thank you to staff at Rosewood Lodge and Stonewall Hospital for their excellent care. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
