She will be lovingly remembered by her soul mate and husband Arthur of 52 years; and her seven children, Martin, Tannis (Des), Mark (Marcia), Mike (Pat), Stena (Rod), Kirsten (Thorsten) and Kristine (Gary). She is also mourned by her sister Barbara Bell; grandchildren, Jesse, Travis, Carly, Duncan, Megan, Tiffany, Michelle, Ryan, Krista, Sheycee, Vera and Arthur; and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tristan and Isabel; and many more family members and friends. She was predeceased by her mother Elizabeth (Lil) Bell (nee Carnegie) in 1972, stepmother Hettie Bell in 1998, father Albert Bell in 1999 and brother Grant Bell in 2006. She was raised in West Kildonan until the family moved to Fort Rouge during the 1950 flood. Betty was educated at Centennial, Lord Roberts and Tech Voc High School. She worked for CP Rail until her marriage. Betty was dedicated to her family and loved nothing more than to host large family gatherings that were typically filled with laughter and good fun. Her love of sports was legendary whether she participated or watched. Nothing gave her more pleasure than to be the number one fan (and chauffeur) at her children's and grandchildren's sporting events. She figure skated as a young girl at the Assiniboine Figure Skating Club, played hockey in The Pas and also became an avid curler. This love of curling led to her tenure as President of the Fort Rouge Ladies Curling Club in 1979. Betty was very artistically inclined shown by the variety of homemade crafts she created over the years. We gratefully acknowledge the compassionate support that Betty and her family received from the fifth floor staff at the Victoria General Hospital and to her many homecare workers and nurses, with special mention to Nurse Dale Davidson who gave Betty 15 years of medical attention and affection. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 19, 2007, at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, with interment to follow. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Victoria General Hospital, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 9Z9, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200 - 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6, or a charity of choice.
