SISTER MARGUERITE HARTY 1916 - 2007 Sister Marguerite Harty was peacefully called to her Eternal reward by the Lord on March 15, 2007 at Taché Nursing Centre, surrounded by her Sisters the Grey Nuns and the caring staff of 3DE at the age of 90 and 62 years of religious life. Marguerite was born in Gull Lake, SK on October 17, 1916 to John W. Harty and Elizebeth Coyle. She was the second of a family of four children. Before entering the Grey Nuns Novitiate in St. Boniface, MB, on February 13, 1942, Marguerite worked for a few years at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina, SK. Sister Harty made her first vows on August 15, 1944, and five years later Marguerite consecrated herself to God by perpetual vows on the footsteps of Marguerite d'Youville at the Mother House in Montreal. After her religious profession, Sister Marguerite's first mission was Hospice Taché, as it was called then, where she cared for the elderly and the sick. Then, after having completed her Practical Nursing Course, she was transferred to St. Boniface Sanatorium. Later, La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, ON, the Grey Nuns Infirmary and Ste-Rose-du Lac Hospital also had the privileged of benefiting from Sister Harty's dedication and compassionate love. Having retired from nursing in 1981, after over 35 years of dedicated service, Sister Marguerite continued to serve, this time as a pastoral worker and sacristan at Taché Nursing Center. People knew her as a sympathetic, discrete and understanding listener. Her presence radiated peace and many found in her an excellent companion, caring person and faithful friend. Even with a failing eyesight and poor hearing, Sister Harty remained interested in people and events with a constant patience and smile. As a woman of prayer and faith, Sister Marguerite loved to encounter the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament or in the silence of her room. Sister Harty leaves to mourn two brothers: Stephen (Teta) and Patrick (Evelyn), her sister- in-law Myrna Gamble; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and one brother Paul. A liturgy of the Word will be held on Sunday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Residence Despins at 151 Despins Street and the funeral will be celebrated by Father Albert Bouffard, o.m.i., the next day, March 19, at 1:00 p.m. at the same place. The Grey Nuns wish to thank the staff of Taché Center and the pastoral workers for their love and excellent care towards Sister Marguerite Harty.
