GEORGE WHICKER After a brief illness, George died on March 12, 2007, five days before his 96th birthday. He is survived by Clara Mae, his beloved wife of 68 years; also mourning his loss are three sons, Ted (Sandra), Allan (Mavis) and Douglas; two granddaughters, Pam Gordon (Ken), Jennifer Engbrecht (Kurt), grandson Michael; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Ivy Ellingham and Hazel Leitkie. George and his four sisters grew up in St. Vital. He started work with Osler Hammond and Nanton at the age of 14 where he rose to be the company's chief accountant. He was very involved in Boy Scouts and was Winnipeg's 1st Area Commissioner. At the time he left Winnipeg, he was vice president of Niakwa Country Club and a trustee with the St. Vital School Division. When he was 52, he left OH N and moved with Clara Mae to Cranbrook, BC, where they lived for the next 39 years. During his time in Cranbrook he worked for Columbia Natural Gas and Crestbrook Forest Industries. In 2002, George and Clara Mae returned to Winnipeg to be close to their son Allan and his wife Mavis and his two granddaughters and their families. George's family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Lindenwood Manor, where George and Clara Mae resided. We're also very grateful to the homecare nurses and aides for their kind exceptional care of both George and Clara Mae. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. in Winnipeg (Aubrey St. entrance), at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday March 24, 2007, with Rev. Dr. Brett Cane officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
