CLYDE FRANCIS GREEN February 27, 1921 - March 6, 2007 Philippians 1:3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you. Our dearly-loved father has gone joyfully to be with Mom again, and we are proud and privileged to be his family, and to know that he has spread his kindness, gentleness, laughter and strength wherever he's been known. I was going to say that a light went out in the world with his departure but it didn't - that light remains, a legacy of love, to help and guide us. Dad's life wasn't easy even though it was filled with love from the time he met Mom, but he faced all his trials with courage and dignity and unfailingly stepped up to do whatever needed to be done. Dad was a Veteran of the Second World War, having served in the 17th Battalion 15th Field Regiment of the Canadian Artillery. He was injured in some of the fiercest fighting of the war at Falaise, south of Caen, against SS and Panzer Divisions, but he remained on duty and was mentioned in Dispatches. In Winnipeg after the war, he became a Master Carpenter although he'd originally planned to be an architect. The family lived in England from 1951 to 1976 when they returned to Canada, and Dad became Head of Maintenance and Construction at Winnipeg City Hall until his retirement in 1988. A keen and talented gardener, Dad won many prizes for his garden in Stourbridge, England. He enjoyed reading and music - mainly classical and jazz, was a keen darts player (more prizes) and loved most sports. Dad had been a member of the British Legion in Stourbridge for 25 years, serving on numerous committees and working on the sale of poppies for Remembrance Day. He was a member of the Transcona Branch of the Canadian Legion for over 30 years, worked on committees and enjoyed sociable evenings with other members, especially Wednesday darts nights. Predeceased by his beloved wife Mary (Molly); an infant son Francis; his siblings, Inez Dare, Ernest, Stanley and Vincent Green; and his parents Ragnilde and George Green. He leaves to miss him and rejoice in his life and his steadfast love: Rick (Miriam), Diane, Catherine (Keith), Paul, Suzanne and children, Natalie, Paul and children, Jennifer, Patrick and Allan as well as other relatives and in-laws and many friends in England as well as Canada. We thank all the staff and volunteers at Park Manor Personal Care Home for their kindness, care and love. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to Park Manor PCH, 301 Redonda St., Winnipeg, MB R2C 1L7, or any charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held March 26, 2007, 7:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church at Smith and Graham. Cremation has taken place. NEIL BARDAL INC 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
