Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM (BILL) C. HETHERINGTON Peacefully, on Thursday, March 1, 2007, at his residence, our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Bill passed away, just short of his 77th birthday. Remaining to forever cherish Bill's memory are his two sons, Steve and wife Sue, and Rick and wife Jan. He was a proud Papa to his eight grandchildren, Dan Hetherington and wife Judy, Bryan William Hetherington (Becky), Eric, Sean, Dylan, and Jessica Hetherington, Ryan and Cory Tippmann; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Brooklin Hetherington. Remembering Bill as well is his mother-in-law Gertie Stevens; his brother-in-law Holly Stevens; extended family and many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan on April 23, 1993; parents Mary and Ernie; and sister Iris. Born on March 13, 1930, Dad was raised in St. James. On May 23, 1951, he married his childhood sweetheart Joan Stevens and they were soon blessed with the arrival of their two sons. He began his career at N.M. Paterson Sons, working his way up and holding the position of office manager for many years. In pursuit of his dream of learning to fly, Dad left Paterson's and began lessons at the Winnipeg Flying Club. He eventually earned not only his private license, but as well his commercial license and float endorsement and spent several years instructing at the Winnipeg Flying Club. In earlier years, Dad loved the annual hunting and fishing trips and in his retirement years his many hobbies kept him busy. Dad was very skilled in the construction of his remote control model airplanes and he loved his game of golf, spending many years as the starter at Southwood Golf Club. He enjoyed getting back into the game of curling and was also a member and volunteer with the Manitoba Orchid Society. Most recently, Dad was a valued volunteer as a driver for the St. James Assiniboia Senior Centre. He enjoyed life to the fullest and his was definitely a life well lived! A celebration of Dad's life will be held on Monday, March 19, at 1:00 p.m. in the Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue (corner of Mount Royal Road and Ness Avenue), with Pastor Bob Jacob officiating. For those who wish, parking will be available in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church parking lot located on Ness Avenue. A private family interment will take place at a later date. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the emergency response crews, with special thanks going to officers Sherry Blunden and Brad Jones for their compassion. If friends and family so desire, memorial donations to the St. James Assiniboia Senior Centre, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3, would be greatly appreciated. He lived on earth a little while, And learned the joy of wings. The cloudless sky, the boundless blue, A pilot's favourite things. He lived - he shared his joy with us, Too soon he flew away, To new horizons, brighter skies, Where earth folk cannot stray. And though his time on earth has passed, And all his flying's done, He'd tell us all with no regret, Indeed, I had some fun. Bill's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 4665
