ALYSON KORCH It is with profound sadness that the family of Alyson Korch announces her sudden passing on Friday, March 9, 2007, at the age of 34. Alyson will be deeply missed by her husband Brad Bamford, her son Evan, her parents, Pat and Al Korch, her brother Keith (Shaleen), her sister Ainslie (Newton), her grandmother Elsie Ferens, in-laws, Joy and Keith Bamford, brother-in-law Curtis Bamford (Janine) as well as numerous family, friends and colleagues. Although Alyson's life was cut tragically short, she made the most of the time she was given. Alyson dedicated her life to education. She received her Bachelor of Education Degree from McGill University, and then returned to Manitoba to work for Junior Achievement, Rousseau River First Nation, Lord Selkirk School Division, and most recently Red River Valley School Division, where she has spent the last five years as the teaching-principal of Peace Valley School on the Homewood Colony. One of Alyson's great passions as a teacher was literacy, and her interest in literature deeply affected her personal life. She was an avid reader, with a particular interest in Canadian literature, ranging from Carol Shields to Frederick Philip Grove to Margaret Laurence. Alyson travelled widely, visiting many parts of Canada, and destinations further afield including Arizona, Italy, Greece, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, and Hong Kong. During the summer months, Alyson was an avid gardener, developing and tending her perennial beds and making numerous trips to local garden centres. The world is a brighter place for having known this wonderful mother, wife, daughter, sister, educator and friend. A memorial service was held on Friday, March 16, 2007, 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Siloam Mission, 300 Princess Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 1M3.
