MARGARET JEAN ROBERTSON (nee THOMSON) Peacefully, on March 15, 2007 at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, Margaret J. Robertson, beloved only child of Mary Ellen and William Thomson died at the age of 95 years. She is survived by her sister-in-law Marjorie M. Robertson. Margaret will be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends, in Winnipeg and the East. Margaret lived an extraordinary life, filled with purpose, travel, creative and intellectual discovery, laughter and most important of all, family and friends. She knew at an early age how she wanted to live her life. Her thoughts, which never changed, were recorded in the Winnipeg papers, when, as top pupil and valedictorian of her Grade 9 graduating class at Earl Grey School, she shared her perception of success to be aimed at in the years to come. Success she held, was to be doing something for the betterment of the world, not in amassing wealth. Knowledge was to be gained by hard work and the best life was one of unselfishness. This was the way she lived her life - always ready to lend a quiet helping hand to friends, family and important causes. A teacher by profession, Margaret enjoyed many happy years with students in the fields of initially music and later English. In 1971, Miss Thomson taught her last class at Kelvin High School and married her childhood sweetheart, Glenn Robertson. Thus began an immensely happy period of her life. They lived out at St. Andrews on the Red, in the house that Glenn had built himself. The door was always open and the welcome mat always out. The acres of land flourished under their care with birds, flowers, fruit trees and a lush vegetable garden. Their time was relatively short but especially happy. In the ensuing years after Glen's death, Margaret maintained her relationships with her earliest childhood friends, her associates and many other friends and family. Her hospitality was renowned. She was a longtime member of Westworth United Church, the University Women's Club of Winnipeg and many other organizations. Cremation has taken place. A service will be held at Westworth United Church on Tuesday, March 20 at 2:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff at The Wellington, The Grace Hospital (5th Floor) and The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for the care and respect with which they treated Margaret in her final years and months. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Thomson Funeral Home 669 Broadway - 783-7211
